No-Movement Days Extended for Jamaican Citizens

As previously reported, Prime Minister Holness announced it would increase the curfew hours to protect the citizens of Jamaica from the further spread of the virus, Covid-19. And now, in the address on September 1st, those days will be extended by two more weeks.

According to reports from Caribbean News Now, the days that have been added are as follows:

  • Sunday, September 5th
  • Monday, September 6th
  • Tuesday, September 7th
  • Sunday, September 12th
  • Monday, September 13th
  • Tuesday, September 14th.

These days will be 24-hour no-movement days. The people of Jamaica will be required to stay at home. Furthermore, the curfew hours will remain as they were with no movement from 7 pm to 5 am the following day from Wednesdays to Fridays on days other than those listed above. On Saturdays, curfew will begin at 6 pm.

In efforts to curb the spread of the disease any further, the vaccination program will continue. In addition, those seeking medical treatment and overseas travel will be allowed to move on as needed. And the military will remain intact, with no further restrictions on movement to keep people safe.

In his address, Holness said, “For the private sector, I am making a strong appeal to companies to ensure only persons who cannot work from home come to the workplace.”

With the death toll on the rise and hospitals at a “crisis” level, the Prime Minister encourages all to work from home that can. Additional measures to stop the spread will be announced in the days to come. In the meantime, please do all you can to keep to yourself, practice social distancing and COVID-19 protocol when you need to be out.

Be vigilant in the fight against the spread in the following ways:

  • Faithfully wear masks in all public places.
  • If you are sick, reach out for testing and stay home.
  • Keep gatherings to no more than ten guests.
  • Maintain social distancing.
  • Be responsible business owners by ensuring social distancing and disinfecting all surfaces.
  • Wash hands often and carrying hand sanitizer.

Let’s all do our part to keep Jamaica safe for the generations to come.
