St. Maarten Receives Its First Recycling Container for Clothing

In efforts to aid the less fortunate in the area, St. Maarten has accepted a clothing recycling bin. The proud owners of the container are the GBNM Nanny Nurssy Foundation (Nurse Monique of SMMC). Together, the Dutch Representative in St. Maarten, Kooyman Megastore, and HaVen Audit, Accounting, and Consultancy collaborated in this philanthropic gesture.

  • The Dutch Representative in Philipsburg donated the container.
  • HaVen procured the shipping of the container and gathered all efforts.
  • Kooyman sponsored the location and incurred the shipping cost from the Netherlands to St. Maarten.

The Commercial Officer at Kooyman, Evencia Carty-Seabrookes, had this to say.

“From the start, I wanted to make sure Kooyman was on board to make this happen. Kooyman believes in initiatives to reduce poverty and promote sustainability. The container does both. Recycling clothing and shoes and making them available to the less fortunate is a great way to support underprivileged families, while at the same time helping the environment by reducing waste.”

Now, the people of St. Maarten can join Nurse Monique in helping others and the planet too.

About Nurse Monique

The lovely Nurse Monique assists the homeless, isolated elderly folks, and young single mothers. She provides these individuals with medication, bathing facilities, and of course, clothing.

One of the more cumbersome tasks to coordinate in helping others is the collection of suitable clothing. It is a time-consuming task for both the person donating and the collection site, and in this case, the site has been Nurse Monique’s home. But, with this new collection bin, people can donate gently used items to be handed out to those in desperate need of clothing. And the container is open for donation 24/7 and conveniently located in the Kooyman parking lot.

The Resources for Community Resilience stated on their Facebook page the following sweet sentiment.

Nurse Monique is sooo unique! Nanny Nurssy we are so proud of what you have accomplished and done for the community so far; and the great things still to come from you and your team!”
