Three Steps Begin Your Stress-Free Relocation

Are you ready to move? Still packing the house or office?

Moving can be both an exciting and stressful event. There are so many details needing your attention; it can be overwhelming.

While not all of us consider organizing to be a fun hobby, an organized move is an achievable goal.

As you sit in your sea of boxes and paperwork, remember these tips to help you streamline the process. You've Got This!

STEP ONE for an Organized Move:

The moment you know you are moving, whether moving to a new state or country, moving homes, or moving an office, you will want to get as organized as possible. Keeping everything in one location will keep your stress at a minimum when looking for paperwork, contracts, and contacts.

Your best bet for an organized move is to get a 3-ring binder and start putting everything you need inside. With a simple internet search, you will easily find moving planner pages to download and print for free!

These planning pages include lists such as…

     Important Dates for Your Move

     Contacts List

     Budget and Expense List

     Moving Checklists

Utilities Set Up and Shut Off List

     Master Box Inventory List

     Items to Donate or Sell

     To-Do List… and more!

This moving binder will be your best friend throughout the relocation. The simple act of filing papers and checking off a to-do list promotes the feeling of accomplishment where it seems the tasks are endless. Having all the relocation documents and moving costs at your fingertips will keep you organized and moving forward.

STEP TWO for an Organized Move:

If you are tired of hearing sounds of children yelling down the hall, "Mom, where is the tape?" and your spouse crying out, "Honey, I need the box cutter," this step may be the answer for you!

It's a real lifesaver, you'll see. Here is what you do.

Gather all supplies for packing the boxes, such as permanent markers, labels, gallon-sized freezer bags, scissors, box cutters, packing tape, and bubble wrap, and place them in a plastic container or a basket. This way, when you are packing a room, you simply pick up the box and move it to that room.

Quick tip* Pack your home room by room. It will keep the process moving and help you in the new location when unpacking.

STEP THREE for an Organized Move:

If your realtor does not provide it, search the web! What do we search the web for? Searching for the businesses you will need to find before you arrive in the new place is an efficient strategy. It is good to have a lot of the leg work done before you settle in. A seamless entry into the new state, country, or city will allow you time to make connections in the community and feel at home a lot quicker.

Here is a list you can add to your Organized Move Binder.

Locate the new public utilities and inform them of the move. (Pay deposits in advance.)

Search for the nearest DMV to take care of your driver's license.

Contact the schools your family will be attending and set up a meeting time.

Move prescriptions to the pharmacy you will be using near the new place.

Set up new doctors, dentists, and veterinarians in the area.

These are just a few of the tasks we tend to put off when arriving in a new place and unpacking your life! If you get ahead of the game and place them all in your Organized Move Binder, you will get to those appointments and resume life as usual.

YOU ARE READY!

If you follow these simple steps and the additional tips in the printed pages of your binder, you will be a step ahead and organized. Gather your box of packing supplies and grab the binder and begin planning your move in a perfectly organized and simple way.
