Congratulations! You are ready for a Caribbean vacation, and you have chosen an incredible location. The U.S. Virgin Islands are a great way to get away and yet, stay in familiar territory. It is kind of a staycation if you are from America. And from any other place, we welcome you to the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Get To Know the U.S. Virgin Islands
To know the U.S. Virgin Islands is to love the islands. Located in the Lesser Antilles, this American territory includes around 50 cays and islands. The islands' natural beauty is evident and teeming with tropical forests, stunning beaches, lush mountains, and rocky coves. Then there are the crystal-clear waters full of sea life and calling to boaters, swimmers, and divers too.
Some of the islands you may be more familiar with are St. Croix, St. John, and St. Thomas.
St. Croix
As the largest of the three islands, St. Croix is home to Buck Island Reef. This reef is the nation's first underwater monument and is very worth the visit. Also on the island are the sugar plantations, Heritage Trail, and lush gardens. Here are a few of the things you should include in your stay.
Heritage Trail, St. Croix- A 72-mile driving trail is featured here so visitors can learn of the island's Danish traditions and natural attractions. There, you will pass by more attractions.
Christiansted, St. Croix- This is the largest town in St. Croix and holds the port to the island. Sightseers love to see the colonial homes and Neoclassical architecture. And be sure to take in Salt River Bay Historical Park, where Christopher Columbus landed on U.S. soil.
And don't forget, with diverse cultural influences comes a myriad of events, food samplings, music, and parties to remember for a lifetime.
St. John
This island is an ecotourist's dream. With over 2 thirds of the island dedicated to the Virgin Island National Parks, visitors have no shortage of things to do. Ensure your visit includes hiking, snorkeling, fishing, boating, and more.
Trunk Bay Beach & Underwater Snorkel Trail, St. John- Located in the Virgin Islands National Park, it is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. There, divers and snorkelers can see over 30 species of fish and labeled coral reefs too.
Vacationers can enjoy the active days of the area or the relaxation of the pristine beaches. And it is the most budget-friendly of the islands.
St. Thomas
This gateway to the archipelago is the most popular for vacationers and the capital of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Clearly, ships dock here for dining, shopping, and entertainment in addition to the beautiful beaches. Cruz Bay is the downtown of St. John and is nicknamed "Love City." And most often, folks recognize it by the pastel homes lining the coast. Included on the island are the following additional attractions.
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas- The islands' capital is one of the most popular places to add to your itinerary. Enjoy the port with all its shopping and dining as well as the beaches. Then there are more adventures to behold.
Coral World Ocean Park, St. Thomas- This interactive marine experience offers fun for the entire family.
Magens Bay, St. Thomas- One of the world's most stunning beaches, the seas are calm, and the horseshoe-shaped bay begs for water sports and more. There you'll also find Tropical Discovery Hike, which is a 75-acre preserve.
