Immigrant Rescued by Coast Guard become American Hero

14 Jun

A group of immigrants headed for America from Haiti were on a small wooden boat with little to no room. Aboard the boat was a mother and her 6-year-old son, Orlando Morel . Lost at sea with no food you can see how this could be a scary and traumatic experience.

They were later rescued by the US Coast Guard and eventually they arrived in America. I am sure every day the little boy thought of his journey to the United States because when he turned 18 years-old he joined the United States Coast Guard.

“What I tell myself is I was given an opportunity and my life was saved by the Coast Guard,” Morel said. “I feel it’s better to be alive and shipping back to Haiti than being abandoned out at sea and pretty much starving to death or dying of dehydration.”

Stories like this make you realize that people, given the opportunity, can do great things!
