Introducing Carter Bonas, Golf Superstar
There is exceptional beauty and resilience in autism, a fact that thirteen-year-old Carter Bonas exemplifies. Born to a Tobagonian father and Jamaican mother, this young golfer, entrepreneur, and motivational speaker is intentionally proving that life gives back exactly what we put in. Diagnosed with ASD at the age of one, Carter's journey has been tremendously inspiring. His mother, Dr. Thelma Tennie, explains that Carter is high-functioning and can do almost everything a child without autism can. However, he sometimes experiences social awkwardness and has faced bullying in the past.
Carter's Impact and Upcoming Events
In October, Carter will be visiting Montego Bay, Jamaica, to host a golf tournament on the island. Proceeds from the event will be donated to a school in an area that lacks proper plumbing infrastructure. This is a testament to Carter's commitment to giving back, and he hopes to extend similar initiatives to Trinidad and Tobago soon. At home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Carter attends an online school, allowing him to excel academically while managing his entrepreneurial endeavors.
Launching Spectrum Golf
Concerned about his future should anything happen to his family, Carter launched a golf line that sells clothes and accessories. Designed to accommodate his skin sensitivity, the clothing line features soft, pajama-like material and debuted at the PGA Show as a new product.
Carter Bonas Day and Beyond
This year, Carter will host the First Annual Autism Awareness Golf Tournament at the Country Club of Coral Springs. Additionally, he is working on his autobiography, detailing his inspiring journey. Proud of his Caribbean heritage, Carter showcases both the T&T and Jamaican flags on his golf bag. His parents, Dr. Thelma Tennie and Bolvin Bonas, are immensely proud of their determined, brave, and fun-loving son.
Looking Ahead: Big Goals and Giving Back
Carter's future goals include owning a retail store and collaborating with major brands. He remains passionate about giving back, recently launching a nonprofit and serving as a golf coach and motivational speaker. Participating in the First Tee program with the Florida Gold Coast chapter, Carter concentrates his efforts on the future of the sport for the children and more.
