Open since December 2020, on the increasingly hip island of Barbuda, Nobu Barbuda has become the Caribbean's hottest new restaurant (caribjournal.com). Founded by actor Robert De Niro and Japanese celebrity chef and restaurateur Nobu Matsuhisa, along with restaurateur Drew Nieporent and investor Meir Teper, Nobu Restaurants are famous for their fusion cuisine blending traditional Japanese dishes with Peruvian ingredients. Their signature dish is black cod in miso.
Set on a stunning stretch of sand, on Princess Diana beach in what was K Club, the latest Nobu is becoming a local favorite and is attracting large numbers of visitors from Antigua and further afield, arriving for lunch in this spectacular location by helicopter or yacht (barbudaful.net).
Home to exquisitely good food (barbudaful.net), Nobu Barbuda is currently open for lunch only. According to the Caribbean Journal, "The menu is classic Nobu—superbly sourced sushi, outstanding entrees like miso black cod and even a Wagyu selection, and right now the eatery is open from Wednesday to Sunday, starting at 12 PM" (caribjournal.com).
And the best is yet to come. If all goes according to plan, by 2023 De Niro will be complementing his Nobu restaurant with the opening of the Nobu Beach Inn. He envisions the inn capturing a quiet community feel and will offer one-to-four-bedroom villas with private pools and direct beach access.
Surrounding the property will be privately owned residences, fully serviced by the inn (townandcountrymag.com). According to De Niro, "I knew that if I were going to build something like this, I would have to find the perfect place" (townandcountrymag.com).
De Niro wants the inn to be somewhere people come back to year after year, a destination that is "not too formal, the kind of place people really want to go to, and that they will make the effort to get to" (townandcountrymag.com).
Until then, De Niro's Nobu restaurant is the perfect getaway to enjoy one-of-a-kind beauty and taste along the gorgeous Caribbean shoreline.
